Interview insides and pictures with the designer of VICKĀY during New York fashion week. Discussion touched talent, her brand and the inspiration behind the new collection.
Could you introduce yourself and share the story behind the brand ?
My name is Victoria Kazant Karatza , I am a fashion designer and founder of VICKĀY brand.
Since the age of 4, l knew I would become a fashion designer. Having a talent It’s like an obligation you can’t deny. Life will always push you towards your purpose and this label is the expression of that.
What sparked your passion for creating your own fashion label ?
The need to share what God gives me with the world. I believe that creating a personal label is the pathway to expressing one’s true creativity. A market gap that only you can sense that exists and the urge to fill it the best way you can.
How would you define your brand’s concept and the message you aim to deliver?
My brand aims to introduce “Casual Couture” to the fashion world. It is a couture approach to casual wear. There is a couture aspect behind our techniques introduced into effortless daily wear.
This combination reflects the search of people to stand out in times of total identity merge that fast fashion has pushed on us. A natural need for expressing our uniqueness throughout the way we dress. Clothes help us to communicate who we are with the world before any words are spoken. VICKĀY offers that opportunity, we push our brand’s limits by constantly showing new collections and in limited production. That ensures each piece is treated with respect to the people working to create it, to the environment and finally to the people who buy it. When designing I always aim to reflect the beauty and transcend time and seasons.
What was the inspiration for your latest collection, and what makes it unique?
This collection is representative of what VICKĀY stands for. A combination of couture and casual merged into one. For this collection my inspiration is the notion and the opportunity we all have to be a beacon of light no matter where life takes us. A light that can be so strong it cuts everything on its way in the moment of expression. We all need to find that light and gain a deeper appreciation of everyone’s uniqueness and inner beauty.
What guidance would you offer to those looking to start their own fashion brand?
Always follow your dreams and stay true to yourself, and when you feel blessed be thankful and don’t forget to share it with others.
